Music producer Benny Blanco has opened up about his personal taste in music, and his comments have quickly caught attention. In a recent interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s Icons issue, the hitmaker revealed that his preferences are closer to those of a teenager than many might expect.
Blanco admitted with humor, “I feel like my mind and a 15-year-old girl’s mind are very similar in what we like, musically.” The statement quickly spread online, with many fans amused by his candid honesty.
The Grammy-winning producer is known for working with some of the biggest stars in pop. Over the years, he has collaborated with Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Halsey, Katy Perry, and The Weeknd. Some of his most recognized credits include Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s Moves Like Jagger, and Kesha’s TiK ToK.
Reflecting on his career, Blanco explained that his creative process has always been about fun and authenticity. “I’ve just always been drawn to making stuff that makes me feel good,” he shared. “If people enjoy it, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s fine too.” He added that, for him, being iconic is about not worrying too much about approval.
Blanco also spoke about the making of Teenage Dream, admitting the team had no idea it would become such a long-lasting anthem. “We were just making a song, having fun, and getting drunk,” he recalled. “It’s not rocket science. Sometimes you’re just in the right place at the right time.”
Looking back, he also remembered his early pop projects, including work with Britney Spears. Amusingly, Blanco confessed that he sometimes hears a song he likes, uses an app to identify it, and realizes it is one of his own. Laughing it off, he said, “I’m old and can’t remember anything. I’ve been making songs for 16 years.”
