ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja has decided to step down as PTI Secretary General. He announced that he will formally request party founder Imran Khan to relieve him from the position.
In a post on X, Raja confirmed that he would submit his resignation during a meeting with Khan. Despite this decision, he said he will continue to provide legal services to the party free of cost.
Raja revealed that he had earlier sent a resignation request through Advocate Ali Bukhari. However, the request was not accepted at that time. He expressed gratitude for the confidence the party had shown in him but noted that recent circumstances left him with no choice but to make a final decision.
He stated that an incident on Monday forced him to take this step. Without giving further details, Raja said his decision was based on principle.
“My life is an open book, and none of my actions contradict my values,” he said. “I cannot accept any compromise on intellectual or financial integrity.”
Reports suggest that internal disagreements within the party have grown in recent weeks. Party insiders link Raja’s resignation to mounting differences with senior figures, though he has not directly named anyone.
Raja’s exit from this key position comes at a time when PTI faces political and legal challenges. Several senior leaders are dealing with court cases, while the party debates its strategy for upcoming elections.
By stepping down from the organizational role but continuing as a legal adviser, Raja signaled his willingness to support PTI’s legal battles while distancing himself from its internal conflicts.
The resignation of the PTI Secretary General is seen as another blow to the party’s leadership structure, which has undergone multiple changes since last year.
