100 More Electric Buses Dispatched to Pakistan from China

A new fleet of 100 electric buses in Pakistan is on its way from Shanghai, China. The shipment is part of Punjab’s plan to modernize public transport with eco-friendly solutions. These buses are expected to arrive in the province within the coming weeks.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif confirmed the development, saying that by December electric buses will operate in every district of Punjab. She highlighted that the fare will remain affordable at just Rs. 20, making the service accessible to commuters across the province.

This step is being seen as a major push towards cleaner urban mobility. It will not only improve public transport facilities but also reduce pollution in crowded cities. The move shows how Pakistan has purchased buses from China to strengthen sustainable transport networks.

Earlier this year, Lahore became the first city to receive 11 buses as part of a pilot project. In total, 27 buses were introduced in the first phase of operations. The service was officially inaugurated on February 19 by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The buses are equipped with modern facilities and can carry up to 60 passengers. A charging station has already been set up in Lahore’s Green Town area to support the new fleet. The Punjab Transport Department has been handed responsibility for running the service.

Authorities have also issued tenders for bus operations in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur. This shows the government’s commitment to expanding the network beyond Lahore and making sustainable travel options available across Punjab.

Experts say the growing number of electric buses China is exporting to Pakistan reflects stronger cooperation between the two countries. It also places Pakistan among the nations taking steps to cut emissions and provide modern, cost-effective transport to citizens.

With 100 more vehicles now on their way, the province is closer to building a large-scale, eco-friendly public transport system that benefits both commuters and the environment.
