KP CM Backs Kalabagh-like National Project, Calls for Unity

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has urged national unity for projects like the Kalabagh Dam, saying Pakistan’s interests must come before provincial differences.

Speaking to the media, Gandapur stressed that all concerns must be addressed before initiating such projects. He said the goal should be long-term benefits for children, future generations, and the country as a whole. “The broader national interest should never be compromised,” he added.

Gandapur also highlighted the ongoing challenges in KP due to heavy rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods. He said relief and rescue operations are underway with available resources. “Punjab is our brother, and we are ready to assist wherever needed,” he noted, emphasizing solidarity with neighboring provinces.

On political matters, Gandapur commented on the release of PTI founder Imran Khan. He outlined two ways forward: one through the rule of law and the other via compromise with the establishment, which he deemed unlikely. Gandapur said Khan remains firm on his ideology for the sake of future generations and assured continued support for his stance.

Turning to international concerns, the KP government has reached out to Afghan authorities to provide aid after a 6.0-magnitude earthquake killed over 800 people. Gandapur confirmed that KP would send rescue teams, medical assistance, and relief supplies to affected communities. He also opposed forced repatriation of Afghan refugees, calling for six months for safe and dignified returns.

The KP chief minister reiterated that national projects like the Kalabagh Dam should unite provinces rather than divide them. He called for dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation to ensure the nation benefits from large-scale infrastructure and water management initiatives.
