The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has officially denied rumors suggesting that Field Marshal Asim Munir may become the next president of Pakistan.
In a recent interview with The Economist, DG ISPR addressed the growing speculation about a potential shift in national leadership. He called the claims of Asim Munir’s appointment as president “completely baseless” and clarified that such rumors have no truth.
The reports gained momentum following a campaign referred to as the “Battle of Truth.” This led to public discussions and political commentaries suggesting a major change in power. However, the army’s spokesperson made it clear that such narratives are false and misleading.
DG ISPR also rejected media analyses and online commentary linked to these speculations. He emphasized that such discussions were based on unfounded assumptions.
In the same interview, DG ISPR also touched on national defense matters. He stated that any future military aggression by India would be met with a strong response. “This time, we will begin from the East of India,” he warned, adding that the response would include deep strikes inside Indian territory if necessary.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also denied similar rumors. He said the idea of Asim Munir becoming president was not only false but also harmful to national unity. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Naqvi called it a “negative campaign” aimed at destabilizing the country.
He blamed hostile elements and foreign agencies for spreading misinformation. According to him, such campaigns target key figures like President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the army chief to create division and confusion.
The strong statements from both civilian and military officials aim to put an end to the ongoing speculation.
