Cop Suspended After Beating Intoxicated Woman in Karachi

A police constable has been suspended after a viral video showed him thrashing an allegedly intoxicated woman in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

The incident happened on Saba Avenue on Monday. Witnesses said the woman was shouting in the middle of the road and blocking traffic. A Darakhshan police patrol team reached the spot to remove her.

According to reports, an altercation broke out between the woman and Constable Nadeem. Both slapped each other during the confrontation. The video showed the constable dragging her off the road, which quickly triggered backlash once it appeared on social media.

The footage spread widely online, sparking public anger over the police officer’s behavior. Many citizens questioned why female police staff were not called in to handle the situation, noting that the presence of a woman officer could have prevented escalation.

Police officials took immediate action after the outcry. Constable Nadeem was suspended, and an inquiry was launched. Authorities confirmed that the woman was taken to the police station for legal proceedings. Her medical test was also conducted to verify intoxication claims.

Officials said further investigation is in progress. The incident has renewed debate about police handling of sensitive cases, particularly those involving women. Civil rights groups and social media users have urged the police to review their standard procedures and ensure accountability.

The viral video has become one of the most discussed topics in Pakistan this week. It highlights ongoing concerns about law enforcement practices and the need for gender-sensitive policing in public incidents.

This case is being closely followed as authorities continue their inquiry and decide on possible further action against the suspended officer.

Authorities continue to tighten security across Sindh, as seen when the CTD in Jamshoro arrested terrorists and foiled a major attack.
