Earthquake tremors shake Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of KP

Residents in several cities of Pakistan felt earthquake tremors on Tuesday, causing fear and panic.

The jolts were reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Areas affected included Abbottabad, Mansehra, Mingora, Chitral, Swat, Battagram, Malakand, Haripur, and Khanpur. People rushed out of their homes and workplaces, reciting prayers as the ground shook.

According to the Seismological Center, the quake had a magnitude of 5.2. Its epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 190 kilometers. The depth of the earthquake reduced the risk of widespread destruction.

Officials confirmed that no loss of life or property has been reported so far. Rescue agencies remain alert in case of any emergency. Local authorities have urged people to stay calm but prepared for possible aftershocks.

This event follows a series of smaller quakes recorded earlier this year in Sindh and Balochistan. In June, Mirpur Khas experienced a 3.5 magnitude quake, Gwadar reported tremors of 3.0, and Mirpur Sakro registered a 3.1 magnitude quake. These frequent seismic activities highlight the vulnerability of Pakistan’s northern and southwestern regions to earthquakes.

Seismologists note that the Hindu Kush is a high-risk seismic zone, where underground tectonic activity often causes tremors in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Experts advise residents in earthquake-prone areas to follow safety guidelines, such as moving to open spaces during tremors and avoiding panic.

While Tuesday’s quake caused no visible damage, the incident has once again reminded people of the region’s seismic risks. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety.
