KARACHI – The Sindh government has confirmed that floodwater will reach the province around midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Provincial spokesperson Saadia Javed clarified that no flood stream had entered Sindh yet. She said the situation would become clearer once the water flow passed through Trimmu and Punjnad.
According to officials, if the inflow crosses 900,000 cusecs, it could create a “super flood” situation. Authorities said preparations were already in place to manage such an emergency.
Evacuation plans have been drawn up for people living between Guddu and Kotri Barrages. The government expects that residents from more than 600 locations may need to move. Officials noted that Sindh’s katcha belt houses around 1.5 million people. In case the flood worsens, evacuations will be carried out to protect lives.
Meanwhile, water levels in the Indus River are rising. Sukkur Commissioner Abid Saleem Qureshi confirmed that 34 people stranded in floodwater were rescued in Imam Bux Jatoi Goth. He said rescue teams acted promptly after receiving reports and moved the affected people to safer places.
The commissioner also said many families in the katcha areas have begun shifting out voluntarily. Authorities are coordinating relief operations and setting up arrangements for displaced communities.
Officials continue to monitor the river closely. The next 24 to 48 hours will determine the scale of the impact in Sindh. Relief and rescue teams remain on alert as the province braces for the approaching floodwater.
