Hamas Receives New Gaza Truce Plan Amid Renewed Mediation Efforts

Hamas Reviews New Gaza Truce Plan Amid Mediation

Hamas negotiators in Cairo have received a fresh Gaza truce plan, according to a Palestinian official. The proposal was presented on Monday as international mediators continue pressing for a ceasefire.

The talks are being led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Despite months of negotiations, these efforts have not yet produced a lasting agreement. The conflict, ongoing for nearly two years, has left the Gaza Strip facing severe humanitarian conditions.

The Palestinian official said the new proposal serves as a framework for negotiations toward a permanent ceasefire. It includes an initial 60-day truce and the release of hostages in two stages. Hamas leaders are expected to consult internally and with other Palestinian factions before giving a formal response.

A source from Islamic Jihad confirmed details of the plan. It outlines the release of 10 Israeli hostages alive, along with several bodies, during the first phase. The second phase would include the release of remaining captives, followed by talks for a broader peace deal. International guarantees are also expected to support any final agreement.

The conflict began after Hamas’s October 2023 attack, in which 251 hostages were taken. According to Israel, 49 of them remain in Gaza, including 27 declared dead.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, speaking at the Rafah border crossing, highlighted the urgency of progress. He noted that Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was in Egypt to reinforce joint mediation efforts. The goal, he said, was to push both sides toward an immediate agreement.

Abdelatty also pointed to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. More than two million residents face shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. Aid agencies have repeatedly warned of famine if the conflict continues.

“The current situation on the ground is beyond imagination,” he said, stressing the need for a rapid resolution.

The new proposal represents one of the most concrete attempts in months to halt the violence and move toward lasting peace.
