Heavy Rain Lashes Karachi as Monsoon Showers Continue Across Pakistan

Heavy rain lashes Karachi as monsoon showers continue across Pakistan, causing disruptions in daily life and raising concerns over urban flooding.

Light showers that began last night turned into heavy rainfall early this morning in different parts of Karachi. Several areas, including Tariq Road, Azizabad, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, Hassan Square, North Nazimabad, SITE Area, Clifton, Defence, Qayyumabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, and Korangi, were hit by torrential rain.

Other neighborhoods such as Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Safora Chowrangi, Malir Cantt, North Karachi, Manghopir, Surjani Town, and Taiser Town also recorded intense showers. Reports from North Nazimabad confirmed thunderstorms with strong downpours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast of more heavy rainfall in northern regions of the country. Torrential showers are expected over the next 24 hours in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat. The Met Office also warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Lahore, Attock, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, and Thatta.

Morning temperature reports showed Karachi at 31°C, Lahore at 28°C, Islamabad and Muzaffarabad at 24°C, Peshawar at 26°C, Quetta at 23°C, Gilgit at 18°C, and Murree at 16°C.

Meanwhile, cloudy weather with chances of rain and thunderstorms was predicted in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Areas such as Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula may see showers. Temperatures in Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, and Baramula stood at 18°C, Jammu at 25°C, Leh at 10°C, and Shopian at 19°C this morning.

Authorities have advised citizens to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone zones. Emergency services remain on standby as the monsoon system continues across Pakistan.
