The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in Karachi starting from August 30 until September 2. Authorities have been warned about possible urban flooding during this period.
The PMD predicts thunderstorms in Islamabad from August 29 to September 2. Heavy rainfall is expected in northern and north-eastern Punjab districts, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Mandi Bahauddin, mainly on August 30 and 31.
In Karachi, the rain forecast comes after severe rainfall last week caused major disruption. Roads were flooded, and some areas required boats to rescue residents. Over 200 millimetres of rain damaged the city’s infrastructure, leaving roads broken and rainwater mixed with sewage in several areas.
The heavy rain also affected electricity supply and caused casualties. At least 15 people lost their lives, while many others lost their livelihoods due to partial flooding. Even days after the rainfall, citizens continued to face prolonged power outages.
The PMD’s Karachi rain alert aims to inform residents about potential hazards. Citizens are advised to stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautions to prevent accidents. Local authorities are expected to monitor drainage systems and provide assistance where needed.
Overall, the Karachi rain forecast serves as a reminder of the city’s vulnerability to monsoon-related flooding. Residents are urged to prepare for disruptions and follow official safety guidelines until the rain subsides.
