KP Floods: PDMA reports 43 deaths, 14 injuries after disastrous rain

PESHAWAR – Heavy rains and flash floods have killed 43 people and injured 14 others across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the past 24 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The deceased include two women and eight children. Among the injured are 11 men, two women, and one child. The PDMA report confirmed that 30 houses have been damaged, 25 partially and five completely destroyed.

Fatal incidents were reported in several districts, including Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram. Bajaur and Battagram have been identified as the worst-hit areas.

Rescue operations are underway, with PDMA teams, local authorities, and volunteers working to reach affected communities. Survivors are calling on the government to accelerate rescue efforts and provide immediate shelter for displaced families.

In Mansehra, lightning strikes and a sudden cloudburst triggered severe flooding, causing further casualties and property losses. In Swat’s Mingora, Malam Jabba, Haji Baba, Khwazakhela, and Marghazar, low-lying areas have been submerged. Hundreds of homes are flooded, and access to many localities has been cut off.

Many residents, including women and children, have taken refuge on rooftops. In some areas, people are evacuating on their own as conditions worsen.

The PDMA has warned that the current spell of heavy rains may continue intermittently until August 21. Authorities fear that the situation could deteriorate further in vulnerable districts. Officials have urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow safety advisories.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been facing recurring monsoon challenges, with flash floods and landslides damaging infrastructure and disrupting lives. Relief teams are prioritizing rescue missions, distribution of food, and setting up temporary shelters.
