Lahore – Police in Lahore have uncovered a gang involved in mobile phone smuggling in Lahore using cargo delivery companies. The operation was carried out in Faisal Town under the leadership of SHO Afzal Rauf, resulting in the arrest of two key suspects.
According to SP Model Town Akhlaq Ullah Tarar, the suspects were tracked down using CCTV footage and mobile phone location data. The arrested men had been stealing mobile phones and shipping them to Peshawar disguised as regular cargo parcels.
One of the suspects was seen escaping after a theft in the footage, which helped police identify and locate the gang. The suspects, Shehzad and Hassan, are known repeat offenders with records of theft and robbery across different areas.
During the raid, police recovered ten stolen mobile phones, Rs200,000 in cash, and two illegal pistols from the suspects. A case has been filed against them, and further raids are underway to catch other members of the smuggling ring.
The authorities believe this smuggling group was part of a wider network misusing cargo and courier companies for criminal activity. This method allows stolen goods to be moved across cities without detection.
In recent times, similar tactics have been used by other criminal groups in major cities like Karachi, where drugs and illegal items were sent via online deliveries and motorcycle riders.
The police have urged cargo companies to verify shipments and improve their security checks to prevent such misuse.
This latest bust has raised concerns over the use of trusted logistics services for organized crime. Law enforcement agencies are now increasing their surveillance and working with private couriers to tackle these growing threats.
