Lightning Strike Kills Man, 23 Animals in Thar Parkar

MITHI: A tragic incident occurred in Thar Parkar when a lightning strike claimed the life of a man and killed 23 animals in separate villages. The incident took place near Nagar Parkar as heavy rain with thunderstorms continued across the district.

According to reports, the lightning struck a katcha hut in Pasol village. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Taro Kohli, was asleep inside when the strike hit, leaving him dead on the spot.

In addition to the human loss, several villages also reported livestock deaths. In Mithrio Halepota, Rojh, and Dhanbhario, 21 goats and two cows were killed. Local residents said the animals were grazing in open fields near homes when the lightning struck.

Officials from the district livestock department confirmed that since June 14, at least 193 cattle have died in similar lightning incidents across Thar Parkar. Farmers, who rely heavily on livestock for their livelihood, have expressed deep concern over these recurring losses during the monsoon season.

The provincial health department has also issued an advisory urging residents to take safety precautions. People have been asked to avoid open spaces, trees, and fields during thunderstorms, as the risk of lightning strikes increases in such conditions.

Thar Parkar, already vulnerable to harsh weather, often faces severe challenges during the rainy season. The repeated lightning strikes this year highlight the need for stronger awareness campaigns and preventive measures to protect both lives and livelihoods.

This latest tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by extreme weather in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist.
