Metro Bus Service Suspended in Rawalpindi for Chehlum Processions

RAWALPINDI – The Metro bus service suspended in Rawalpindi today due to security measures for Chehlum processions. Officials confirmed that the suspension affects the route between Saddar Station and Faizabad for the entire day.

The district administration ordered the partial closure to ensure smooth and secure arrangements for religious gatherings. Security agencies have set up containers and barriers around procession routes to control movement and maintain order.

According to the Metro Bus Authority, the service within Islamabad, from IJP to the Pak Secretariat, will continue as normal. However, passengers who use the Rawalpindi section have been advised to seek alternative transport for their commutes.

The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions is being observed across Pakistan. The day marks the 40th day after Ashura and commemorates the sacrifices made at Karbala. Mourning processions are taking place in several cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

In Karachi, the main procession will start from Nishtar Park and end at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar. Police and Rangers have been deployed in large numbers at Numaish and nearby areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, strict security protocols are in place. Roads near procession routes have been sealed, and entry points are being monitored. Authorities aim to facilitate mourners while minimizing inconvenience to the public.

The partial suspension of the Metro bus service is expected to ease traffic congestion around procession areas. Officials emphasized that normal service on the Rawalpindi route will resume once the security situation allows.

The observance of Chehlum holds deep significance for millions of people in Pakistan and around the world. It serves as a reminder of the values of sacrifice, justice, and steadfastness upheld by Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers.
