Pakistan has called on the global community to take urgent steps to end the ongoing war in Gaza. Speaking at a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the Middle East, Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad urged an immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire.
He also demanded a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the release of all hostages, and unrestricted humanitarian access to the region. The appeal comes as the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen.
The ambassador described Israel’s actions in Gaza as “brutal and illegal.” He also welcomed the recent High-Level Conference focused on a peaceful solution and the two-state formula.
However, he stressed that more than dialogue is needed. According to him, real progress depends on joint global efforts and practical action.
Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that a lasting peace in the region can only be achieved by creating a sovereign Palestinian state. He said it should be based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
His speech comes amid growing international concern about the civilian toll in Gaza. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports that, on average, 28 children are killed in Gaza every day. These deaths are linked to constant bombardments, starvation, and the lack of basic aid.
In a recent post, UNICEF wrote, “In Gaza, an average of 28 children a day, the size of a classroom, have been killed.” The agency stressed the urgent need for food, water, medicine, and most importantly, a ceasefire to protect innocent lives.
Pakistan’s strong statement at the UNSC aligns with calls from several other countries and humanitarian groups urging Israel to end its military operations. The demand for peace and aid access is growing louder as conditions worsen for civilians, especially children.
