Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has started a new direct flight service between Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and Sialkot, Pakistan.
The airline announced that the route is designed to serve the large number of passengers who travel between the two cities each year. According to PIA officials, nearly 200,000 people fly from Riyadh to different cities in Pakistan annually.
PIA said the new Riyadh–Sialkot service will make travel more convenient for passengers by reducing the need for connecting flights. The airline aims to provide a smoother travel experience, saving passengers both time and effort.
Officials added that this route will not only benefit Pakistani expatriates living in Saudi Arabia but also support business travelers and tourists. The flights are expected to improve links between the two countries, making it easier for families to visit and for businesses to grow.
The launch of this direct service is part of PIA’s wider plan to enhance air connectivity between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The airline already operates multiple routes linking the two countries, and the addition of Riyadh–Sialkot strengthens its network.
A PIA spokesperson highlighted that the new service would contribute to closer ties between the two nations, as thousands of Pakistanis live and work in Saudi Arabia. Direct flights help maintain family connections and encourage cultural exchange.
This announcement comes shortly after PIA completed a special flight operation for Arbaeen pilgrims traveling to Najaf, Iraq. These flights were arranged after the Pakistani government placed restrictions on road travel to Iran and Iraq.
The special Arbaeen flights began on August 8 and continued until August 11. The return flights from Najaf to Pakistan are scheduled between August 18 and August 23.
For the pilgrims, PIA introduced special discounted fares, with ticket prices set at $675. This initiative was aimed at providing affordable and safe travel for those attending the religious event.
Sialkot, known for its industrial and business activity, is one of Pakistan’s most important export hubs. The city is famous for its sports goods, surgical instruments, and leather products. The direct link to Riyadh is expected to make it easier for traders and exporters to connect with clients and markets in Saudi Arabia.
Air travel experts believe that the route will also attract more inbound passengers from Saudi Arabia who want to explore Pakistan’s northern areas and other tourist destinations.
The new Riyadh–Sialkot service is part of PIA’s efforts to expand its operations and improve customer service. The airline has been introducing new routes, upgrading its fleet, and offering special promotions to attract more passengers.
Officials say that PIA is working to recover from the challenges faced in recent years and is focused on providing reliable and comfortable services. The airline is also looking at other international destinations to expand its network.
The Sindh government has also introduced a CNIC-based system for vehicle registration to curb fraudulent transfers.
