Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan arrived in Tianjin, China, on August 30, 2025, to attend the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, receiving a warm welcome marked by a red-carpet reception, greetings from Chinese officials, and children presenting flowers, symbolizing the deep Pakistan-China friendship.
His six-day visit, spanning August 30 to September 4, 2025, includes high-level engagements to strengthen bilateral ties and advance the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase-II.
Sharif will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to discuss the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” focusing on economic cooperation, regional stability, and mutual interests. He will also attend a military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Additionally, Sharif will address the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference to boost trade and investment, engaging with top Chinese business leaders.
SCO Summit Details:
The 25th SCO Heads of Government Summit, hosted by China, focuses on regional cooperation, security, and economic development among member states, which include Pakistan, China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus (the newest member).
Held in Tianjin, the summit addresses key issues like counter-terrorism, trade enhancement, energy cooperation, and connectivity projects. Sharif will present Pakistan’s perspective on fostering regional peace, promoting SCO connectivity initiatives, and tackling climate change challenges.
He is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other SCO leaders to discuss shared goals, including strengthening the SCO’s role in addressing regional security threats and boosting economic ties through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative, which aligns with CPEC.
The summit underscores the SCO’s growing influence as a platform for Eurasian cooperation, with observer states and dialogue partners like Turkiye and Saudi Arabia also participating in discussions.
