The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood warning as heavy monsoon rains continue across the province. The authority has reported medium to high floods in several major rivers and their adjoining streams.
According to PDMA, water levels are rising in the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. A significant increase is expected in the Chenab during the next 24 hours as water from the Tawi River in Jammu flows downstream. Authorities in Gujrat and Sialkot have been instructed to remain on high alert due to the possible flood threat.
The PDMA confirmed that the inflow at Marala Headworks on the Chenab has reached 127,000 cusecs, with an outflow of 109,000 cusecs. At Khanki Headworks, the inflow is 128,000 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 121,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, the Sutlej River has reached high flood levels at Ganda Singh Wala with 133,000 cusecs of water. It is also in medium flood at Sulemanki Headworks, recording 94,000 cusecs inflow and 87,000 cusecs outflow.
The disaster management body has also warned of flash floods in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan. In addition, the Indus River is in low flood at Kalabagh and Chashma, while the Ravi River is in low flood at Jassar, carrying 53,000 cusecs of water.
Citizens living near riverbanks have been urged to move to safer locations. PDMA has established relief camps in affected areas to assist people during possible evacuations. The authority continues to monitor the situation and has assured timely updates.
The warning highlights the growing flood risk in Punjab as monsoon rains remain active across the region.
