SC Hears PTI Founder Bail Plea in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday took up the PTI founder bail plea filed by Imran Khan. The former prime minister is currently incarcerated in connection with multiple cases.

A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, presided over the hearing. Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb were also part of the bench.

During the session, Chief Justice Afridi noted that some documents had been filed only a day earlier. He said he had not yet reviewed them. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, clarified that the documents were judgments from earlier court proceedings. The Chief Justice stressed that all records must be examined thoroughly before any decision.

He directed both the defense and the prosecution to ensure the timely submission of documents. He added that the prosecution must also review the defense’s submissions before the next hearing. The court adjourned the proceedings until Tuesday morning at 10:30 am.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Punjab government regarding Imran Khan’s appeals. The Chief Justice also raised a legal point, questioning whether final observations could be made in a bail case.

The court instructed the prosecution to prepare legal arguments on these issues. Both sides, including Imran Khan’s legal team, were asked to assist the bench in addressing the questions raised.

Chief Justice Afridi clarified that the Supreme Court would avoid remarks that might affect other ongoing cases against the PTI founder. For now, the court has limited the notice to the prosecution only.

The hearing reflects the growing legal challenges surrounding the former prime minister. Observers note that the outcome could influence both Khan’s political future and the wider political environment in Pakistan. The matter will now be taken up again in the next scheduled hearing.
