Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have announced the closure of schools due to worsening weather conditions. The decision came after the Meteorological Department issued a high flood alert, warning of heavy rainfall and flash floods in several districts.
According to the official notification, all public and private schools in the Bagh district will remain shut on August 18 and 19, 2025. Officials said the move was necessary to protect students and staff from possible risks.
The Met Office has forecast intense rainfall and thunderstorms in Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber. It also warned of flash flooding and landslides in hilly areas. Authorities stressed that the precautionary step was vital as the region faces the peak of the monsoon season.
In addition, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Islamabad over the next 24 hours. The department said showers may occur in intervals but could still cause disruption in low-lying areas.
Officials confirmed that schools in Bagh were closed to ensure safety as emergency services remain on alert. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and to stay informed about weather updates.
Morning temperatures across major cities showed Islamabad at 26°C, Lahore and Peshawar at 28°C, Karachi at 29°C, Quetta and Gilgit at 21°C, Murree at 17°C, and Muzaffarabad at 23°C.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir suggests cloudy skies with possible rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures recorded this morning included 18°C in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramula, 26°C in Jammu, 10°C in Leh, and 19°C in Anantnag and Shopian.
With continuous rainfall across northern regions, officials continue to monitor conditions closely. The decision to keep schools closed reflects growing concerns about the safety of communities affected by floods and landslides.
