Sindh Approves Vehicle Fitness Certification with Wah Industries to Enhance Road Safety

KARACHI – The Sindh cabinet has given in-principle approval for Vehicle Fitness Certification to be carried out by Wah Industries. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The chief minister instructed the transport department to revise the proposal after discussions with Wah Industries and present it again for final approval.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon informed the cabinet about the ongoing setup of vehicle fitness inspection centers. Five centers are currently being established in Karachi, with plans to expand to other cities.

According to Memon, additional inspection centers will be opened in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, and Shaheed Benazirabad. These centers will primarily focus on issuing fitness certificates to commercial and heavy vehicles.

He also shared that a digital system for vehicle registration and traffic challans has been launched to streamline operations. More than 33,000 vehicles have already received fitness certificates through this system.

At present, approximately 9.2 million vehicles are registered across Sindh. Officials believe that a formal Vehicle Fitness Certification process will help reduce road accidents and improve traffic safety in the province.

The collaboration with Wah Industries aims to ensure modern equipment and transparent procedures at inspection centers. The move is part of Sindh’s broader effort to enforce traffic laws and maintain vehicle standards.

Transport department officials say this initiative is crucial, especially for commercial transport, which often travels long distances and requires regular safety checks.

With this step, Sindh joins global efforts to enhance road safety through certified vehicle inspections and digital governance in the transport sector.
