KARACHI – Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government will distribute Pakistan’s first electric pink scooters to women. The initiative aims to improve mobility and provide safer transport options for female students and working women.
According to Memon, the Sindh government has already received nearly 10,000 applications during the first phase of the scheme. Among these, 150 applicants already hold valid driving licenses, while many others have applied for learner permits.
The provincial government has partnered with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to assist applicants. Under this partnership, KMC will offer motorcycle training to women and also cover the cost of their driving licenses.
Memon explained that if the number of applicants exceeds the available 1,000 scooters, a transparent balloting system will be introduced. The draw will be held in the presence of print and electronic media to ensure fairness. A special committee with members from the Excise, Transport, and Finance departments, along with media representatives, will oversee the process.
Applicants who wish to participate can apply online through the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s official website. They need to access the “Projects” section, open the “EV Scooty Ballot Form, Application Form,” complete the details, attach the required documents, and submit.
The introduction of these electric pink scooters is part of Sindh’s broader plan to promote electric vehicles in the province. Authorities believe the program will not only help reduce transport challenges for women but also contribute to cleaner, eco-friendly urban mobility.
This is the first time in Pakistan that a government-led initiative is providing free electric scooters exclusively for women. Officials have emphasized that the move is aimed at empowering women, ensuring safer daily travel, and reducing reliance on expensive or unsafe transport options.
