New Bill Proposes Salary Hike, Perks For Sindh Lawmaker

KARACHI — A new bill proposing a salary hike and additional perks for members of the Sindh Assembly is set to be presented today. The bill aims to revise the salaries, allowances, and facilities of lawmakers starting from July 1, 2025, according to official sources.

The draft legislation includes increases in various allowances such as house rent, utility, medical, and conveyance. It also grants the Leader of the Opposition privileges equal to those of a provincial minister.

One key feature of the bill is the establishment of a Parliamentary Committee. This committee will annually review and recommend salary adjustments for the assembly members. The government will be required to implement these recommendations without exception. The committee chairperson will receive an official vehicle and a fuel allowance.

The bill seeks to replace the outdated 1974 law governing legislators’ pay with a modern framework, aligned with other provincial assemblies. It also emphasizes that salary structures will be based on comparisons with other provinces, ensuring fairness and consistency. The Sindh government will be bound to follow the committee’s suggestions for any salary increases or decreases.

This proposal comes after the federal government decided to raise salaries for members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and Senators. Reports suggest that the salaries for MNAs could increase by up to 200%, from the current Rs. 1.68 lakh per month. The government has consulted coalition and opposition parties and reached consensus on the salary hike.

Besides MNAs and Senators, the raise will also affect ministers and advisors. The Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate are expected to see their monthly salaries rise to around Rs. 15 lakh.

The new bill proposes salary hike, perks for Sindh lawmaker, reflecting ongoing changes in pay structures for elected officials at both provincial and federal levels.
