Swabi Cloudburst: 13 Bodies Retrieved, Says District Official

At least 13 bodies have been recovered after a devastating Swabi Cloudburst struck Dalori village on Monday night, officials confirmed. The disaster followed days of heavy monsoon rains that triggered flash floods and landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Swabi, a total of 17 people have lost their lives so far, including women and children. Four victims were reported in Sarkoi, while 13 were found in Dalori. Rescue operations are still underway, with teams using excavators, ambulances, and support from Rescue 1122 workers.

Rescue efforts have been difficult due to the terrain and widespread destruction. Locals and officials worked side by side through the night, digging through debris with hammers, shovels, and even bare hands. Witnesses said a sudden surge of water and rocks rushed down from the mountains, flattening houses within minutes. At least 15 homes were destroyed, leaving many families without shelter.

Villagers recalled terrifying scenes. “A loud bang came from the mountain, followed by a surge of water and rocks,” said one local worker. Another resident described the incident as “like an apocalyptic movie,” with massive rocks hitting houses before water swept through the valley.

Authorities have provided tents, mosquito nets, and other relief items for survivors. However, around 20 people are still feared trapped under the rubble, and the death toll may rise as search operations continue.

The cloudburst struck amid relentless monsoon rains that have already killed over 350 people across northern Pakistan. More than 200 people remain missing as floods and landslides sweep away entire villages. Officials have warned that further flash floods are likely in the coming days, raising fears of more destruction in the mountainous region.

Despite limited resources, rescue teams continue to clear blocked drainage channels and reopen pathways. Local officials said poorly located houses, some built in stream beds, worsened the impact of the disaster. For now, families in Swabi remain in shock as they search for missing loved ones while bracing for more rainfall.
