Two police officers were killed in an armed attack in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
The shooting took place at Begu Khel Road, near Mela Shahab Khel. Unidentified attackers opened fire on two officers riding a motorcycle. Both policemen suffered critical injuries during the ambush.
Rescue teams and security personnel quickly reached the site. The injured officers were taken to Government City Hospital, but they could not survive their wounds.
The slain policemen were identified as Samiullah and Asad Khan, both residents of Begu Khel Town. Police officials confirmed that the two were on their way to duty at the police lines when they came under attack.
Following the Lakki Marwat firing incident, security forces launched a search operation to trace the armed suspects. Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack.
The district has faced similar acts of violence in the past. Law enforcement officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have increasingly become targets of armed groups in recent years. Such attacks highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by the region.
Earlier this week, two personnel of the Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts were also killed in a terrorist attack on a check post in Chilas. Unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Hudur area, leaving three soldiers injured. Two of them later died from their injuries, while one remains in critical condition.
The back-to-back incidents have once again raised concerns over the safety of security forces stationed in sensitive areas. Officials have assured that operations against militants and armed groups will continue until those responsible are brought to justice.
