The United States has approved a major arms sale to Ukraine worth $825 million. The deal includes 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) air-launched missiles and related equipment.
Ukraine will fund the purchase with support from Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway. The US will provide a loan guarantee to assist with the transaction, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said.
According to the DSCA, the sale will strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against current and future threats. It will also help Kyiv conduct self-defense and regional security missions effectively.
The agency added that the sale supports the foreign policy and national security goals of the United States. By improving Ukraine’s security, the US aims to back a partner country that contributes to political stability and economic progress in Europe.
The State Department has approved the sale, and the DSCA has notified Congress. However, the deal still requires congressional approval before it can proceed.
The conflict in Ukraine began in 2022 when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion. Despite international pressure, Russia has shown little willingness to halt hostilities.
Under former President Joe Biden, the United States committed over $65 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. His successor, Donald Trump, has expressed skepticism about US funding and instead encouraged Europe to contribute more to military aid.
This missile sale is part of the ongoing international effort to support Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. The announcement has drawn global attention, highlighting continued geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe.
